Wax Method
1. Lay the paper on a flat, dry surface
2. Use a round candle (use scented for a unique, sensational scent, or a colored candle such as blue, for a fun, creative touch) and rub on paper. Do this over the front and back until the paper has a slick, waxy feel. Be careful not to rub too hard or the paper might rip
3. Practice on a separate piece of paper. Do the exact steps above and follow by adding a few drops of water on top to make sure it is completely "waxed." This craft is so much fun that you might find yourself waterproofing every paper in your house!

Alum Method
1. Obtain the following items: 6 ounces of alum (look in the spice area of grocery stores or online)
- 1 ounce castile soap, grated
- 1 quart water
- 3 3/4 ounces beeswax (health food stores, online, etc.)
2. Heat the water over medium heat on the stove. Add the alum and castile soap.
3. Bring to the boil, stirring all the time. Once the alum and soap dissolve, add the beeswax. Stir constantly to help the beeswax melt into the mixture.
4. Remove from heat. Pour the mixture into a large flat tray with rims. Use carefully while still hot
5. Using tongs to hold the paper, dip each sheet of paper into the mixture to coat it. Don't leave it in too long, just enough to coat the paper.
6. Once coated, remove and set down on a wire cooling rack covered in wax paper. Leave to dry.

Warnings
- Never use a lit candle.
- Be careful not to have papers near a lit candle.
- Never leave a lit candle unattended.
